Little Lists [9]

Be careful what you wish for. I’ve been praying and hoping for a few days of rest, time I could spend doing nothing but eating puppy-chow in bed while watching movies. And, I got it. I spent most of this week in bed nursing a cough, a pounding headache, and a running nose. But–in the awfulness that is a sinus infection–I found a number of things to be grateful for.

A trip to Iowa last weekend (where I originally got sick) to see old and dear friends, where I got to make face masks out of coffee beans, shoot fruit with paintball guns, peruse farmer’s markets, eat lots of waffles with homemade white chocolate peanut butter, and enjoy the relaxing presence of those who know you inside and out.

A boyfriend who leaves me sick-day surprises and even stays home from work to take me to the doctor and hold my hand while watching 24 all day in bed.

Today I am grateful for my understanding boss and job that allowed me the time to recover, having access to healthcare and medication that is already making me feel better, the first day of my second to last week of work, and so many fun plans for my last three weeks in Washington.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”
Melody Beattie

Sunday was my birthday and I spent it in the sun, on a boat, surrounded by new friends. This year, unlike any other, has been filled with change and uninhibited happiness. So many moments to be grateful for, but to pick a few recent ones….

I am grateful for childhood memories that grow into adulthood. And friends who will see the new X-Men movie with you at midnight.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these, especially since life has been pretty wonderful recently. Lately I’ve been grateful for…
