I dreamed a dream

I love Les Mis. Both the book and the musical are brilliant and inspiring and you can’t imagine how excited I was when David surprised me by taking me to see it last night! He told me a while ago that my Christmas gift was a surprise event rather than a thing and surprisingly I was able to resist the urge to snoop around and figure it out. I wanted it to be a surprise and, even though I had a few guesses as to what it was, I was completely shocked when we turned the corner and I saw this beautiful sign.

There was a lot of jumping up and down, screaming, and maybe even a tear because I was so excited and this was such a thoughtful surprise. As expected, the show was amazing and it inspired me to a) be in a musical (a life-long dream), b) write an epic novel (also a life-long dream) and c) see the movie as soon as it comes out (a much more manageable feat). It comes out Christmas day and unlike other musical movies where the songs are pre-recorded, all the singing is done live and then the instrumentals are layered on after. On top of the already amazing talent in the movie, I think the live-singing is going to make it much more real and impactful.

There I am. As soon as I get home I’m going to re-read the book. How could you not love it with writing like this?

The power of a glance has been so much abused in love stories, that it has come to be disbelieved in. Few people dare now to say that two beings have fallen in love because they have looked at each other. Yet it is in this way that love begins, and in this way only.” ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

As I was thinking of what to name my blog…

I spilled coffee all over my white shirt. My first reaction, like anyone’s would be, was a profanity, but then I laughed at myself, took it as a sign, and decided to call my blog ‘Coffee Stains’. The more I thought about it, the more fitting it seemed.

First, I love coffee. As a morning person and a generally pretty busy person, nothing is better than a hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I love the smell of coffee, the taste of coffee, coffee shops, coffee mugs, coffee dates, etc.

Second, I spill things a lot. I’m not a careless, clumsy person, but sometimes my mind wanders for just a moment and a little bit (or sometimes a lot) of whatever was in my hands ends up on the floor or all over me.

Third, I started getting into blogs as a way to pursue a healthier, happier lifestyle. Here comes the corny metaphor: life, like coffee, is something I love, even though it often results in messy spills. I want my blog to be a place where I remind myself to live a life full of health, happiness, and inspiration and not to sweat the little spills.
